A patient with kidney stones in the Kronoberg region received treatment on the wrong side. The incident is now being reported to the Health and Social Care Inspectorate (Ivo), under Lex Maria, according to SVT News Småland.
During the operation, a tube that was supposed to relieve the pain was incorrectly placed in the right ureter instead of the left, where the patient had a stone.
The mistake was not discovered until a month later during a follow-up examination. Until then, the patient had continued to experience problems with pain and bleeding, but is not expected to have any permanent damage.
The clinic in question has, according to SVT, now reviewed its procedures and plans to introduce additional safety measures to prevent anything similar from happening again.
