The Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump thanks in a post on his social media platform Truth Social for all the support he has received after the assassination attempt.
"It's more important than ever that we stand united and show our true character as Americans, continue to be strong and don't let evil win", Trump writes and sends greetings, saying he looks forward to speaking at the Republican Convention in Wisconsin this week.
"I really love our country, and I love you all", he writes.
In a letter published on Donald Trump's wife Melania Trump's account on X, she writes that the shooter was "a monster who saw my husband as a non-human political machine, trying to silence Donald's passion, his laughter, genius, love of music and inspiration".
She also thanks the security service for their work and urges the US to unite in love.
In an internal PM, sent to Trump's campaign staff, it is stated that he is "doing well". Employees are advised not to go to the campaign offices in Washington and Florida, as these must first be searched by the police.
On Saturday evening local time, Trump held a campaign meeting ahead of the upcoming presidential election in the US when a man opened fire. Trump was hit in the ear and was escorted, bleeding, down from the podium by bodyguards.
