The Government wants to provide more dental care support to certain patient groups – and less to others.
The aim is to better direct dental care resources to the patients who have the greatest need, says Health Minister Jakob Forssmed (KD).
The Government has tasked the National Board of Health and Welfare with developing a national model for risk assessment in dental care.
Today, those with good oral health may be called in more frequently than is justified. They will have to go less often, says Jakob Forssmed and continues:
People with poorer oral health need to go more often. This may involve individuals with disabilities and patients with dry mouth.
Already today, these patients are entitled to special dental care support. However, Jakob Forssmed believes that the current system does not sufficiently meet the needs of these patients.
Today, there is no nationally standardised system for risk assessment. How often one is called in varies depending on where one lives and who one sees. I think that is unsatisfactory.
The National Board of Health and Welfare is expected to complete the task by March 2025.
The idea is also to implement it next year. In connection with this, we also want to prepare a dental care reform that involves improved high-cost protection for older people with poorer oral health.
