More than half of the Democrats' voters want Joe Biden to end his candidacy in the US presidential election, according to a new survey from The Washington Post.
Two out of three adult Americans want the president to step aside, including seven out of ten independent voters.
The survey goes against Joe Biden's statements that it's only the "elite" within the Democrats who are urging him to drop out.
The 81-year-old president has said that he has had positive meetings with voters that have contributed to convincing him to continue, after a TV debate at the end of June where he occasionally gave a confused and incoherent impression.
But The Washington Post's survey shows that 56 percent of the Democrats' voters want him to drop out, while 42 percent think he should continue the campaign.
