More and more debts to the Central Student Finance Committee (CSN) are being sent to the Enforcement Authority for collection, and now the organization Sveriges konsumenter is demanding that the government review the authority's reminder fees, reports SVT News.
In August, this year's CSN debts to the Enforcement Authority amounted to approximately 900 million kronor, which could make 2024 a record year. At the same time, the fee for missing a payment to the authority is 450 kronor.
Far too high, according to Sveriges konsumenter.
The government must review this to prevent people from ending up with the Enforcement Authority, says Secretary-General Johanna Hållén to SVT.
According to CSN, the increasing debts can be partly explained by the fact that more and more people have student loans. It also takes over three months before cases are sent to the Enforcement Authority.
We make a lot of proactive efforts, such as calling young borrowers and sending SMS to avoid them ending up there. We try to catch our customers and help them, says Charlotte Morlin, group manager at CSN, to SVT.
