During a demonstration march in Malmö over the weekend, Sinwar was described as a "freedom fighter" while participants were encouraged to think about all his "sacrifices".

In Helsingborg, a demonstration leader shouted: "We are all your men. Martyr after martyr." The former Hamas leader has also been praised in Stockholm and Uppsala.

According to Middle East expert Anders Persson, it is difficult to condemn the attacks on Israel on October 7 while praising Sinwar.

He was politically responsible for the attacks, even if it is unclear to what extent he himself planned them, says Persson to the newspaper.

The 61-year-old Sinwar – the terror-listed Hamas top leader and hunted by Israel, which sees him as most responsible for the attacks on October 7, 2023 – was killed in Gaza by Israeli military in mid-October.
