It was around 5 pm on Thursday when a man in his 40s died in a shooting in the Nørrebro district. Another woman was injured.
According to the Copenhagen police, the woman was passing by the crime scene and was injured in the attack on the man. She is not reported to be receiving treatment for life-threatening injuries.
Both victims are Danish citizens, said Vice Police Inspector Lasse Michelsen on Thursday.
Multiple Shootings
No one has been arrested after the fatal shooting, and it is too early to say anything about a possible connection to previous shootings in the country, according to the Copenhagen police for TT.
The shooting in Nørrebro was the third in a short time in Copenhagen. About a week ago, shots were fired - also in the Nørrebro area - without anyone being injured. On Monday afternoon, a person was injured in a shooting near the Frederiksberg Centret shopping center.
Young People Recruited
In recent times, several Swedish teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of involvement in attempted murder in Denmark, and the Danish police have described how young Swedes are being recruited to commit violent acts in Denmark.
Two Swedish citizens, a man and a woman in their 25s, are also suspected of having carried out an explosion at a convenience store in Copenhagen on Tuesday. They were arrested in Sweden the same evening and will be extradited to Denmark.
Conflict between Danish Gangs
The background to the recent wave of violence, where five Swedes have been arrested for attempted murder and an explosion within a week, is a conflict between two gangs in Denmark, according to the Danish National Police, NSK, for TT.
According to documents from NSK, a conflict is ongoing between the Danish gang "Loyal to Familia" and an unnamed criminal network. The documents reveal that both weapons and explosives have been used in recent times.
Both groups are reported to have carried out violent acts against each other. At present, NSK assesses that there is a significant risk of further violent incidents as part of the conflict.
