The girl died in her home in Woking, Surrey in August 2023. Her severely injured body was found two days later, with bite marks and burn marks and broken bones.
The ten-year-old "was subjected to severe violence over and over again", stated the judge in London when the sentence was announced. It is alleged that she was beaten, burned with an iron and scalded with hot water for over two years.
The day before the body was found, the father, stepmother, and an uncle fled to Pakistan. They were arrested when they later returned to the UK.
The father has confessed to the crime and, among other things, described how he hit his daughter with a bat and a metal pipe while she was tied up with tape. He claimed that he was trying to "discipline" the girl.
The case has shaken the UK. The defendants were convicted last week, but the sentence was announced on Tuesday: life imprisonment with a minimum of 40 and 33 years, respectively, for the father and stepmother, and 16 years' imprisonment for the uncle.
