A love affair between a Japanese crane and its European counterpart is causing consternation in Denmark, with demands that both the crane and its offspring be shot. It is the Danish Ornithological Association that wants to take action since it was discovered that the Japanese crane, which escaped from a zoo, not only found company but also had chicks.
The association believes that it risks becoming a "fauna pollution" of the wild state in Denmark if the cranes are allowed to live on. The Japanese variant is originally from Skærup Zoo but managed to escape a few years ago. Several attempts to catch it have failed.
