The course is included in the new curriculum for the subject of social studies, according to the Swedish Armed Forces, which welcomes the fact that total defense knowledge is now compulsory in upper secondary school.
In Sweden, there are between 7 and 8 million people who are liable for total defense and only four out of ten know how to act in a crisis or war situation, according to the Swedish Armed Forces.
According to the authority's project leader Robert Trupp, basic education that prepares students for their professional roles in total defense is absolutely necessary.
The course is two hours long and consists, among other things, of an interactive educational game in total defense. The game is based on the idea that "solidarity is key and individualism is not a success", he says in a press release.
"The goal of the education is to create insight, confidence, and initiative among our students so that they know how to act in crisis and ultimately war", says Trupp.
The course also covers international law and NATO's role.
