The Russian military exercise "Ocean-24" stretches across the Pacific Ocean, the Arctic Ocean, the Mediterranean, the Caspian Sea, and the Baltic Sea, and includes over 400 warships, submarines, and support vessels. At the same time, more than 120 aircraft and helicopters and over 90,000 soldiers are participating, according to a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry.

On Monday, China confirmed that it would participate with ships and fighter jets in the exercise and would join the Russian fleet in the Sea of Japan.

The purpose of the exercises, according to Russia, is to test the country's military command's "combat readiness".

Moscow and Beijing have deepened their military and economic cooperation in recent years.

The military exercise is expected to continue until September 16.
