The special prosecutor Jack Smith is holding talks with the US Department of Justice to evaluate how he can conclude his prosecutions against Donald Trump, according to sources close to several media outlets.
The decision to conclude the prosecutions is based on the Department of Justice's policy that a sitting president cannot be prosecuted for crimes committed during their term of office, according to sources close to ABC News.
Trump has, among other things, been prosecuted for his involvement in the storming of the Capitol in January 2021 after his election defeat to Joe Biden.
Among the charges are attempts to defraud the state of the USA, attempts to obstruct a public process, and attempts to prevent people from exercising their constitutionally protected rights.
He has also been prosecuted for his handling of classified documents stored at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida, after his time in the White House.
