A car exploded during the night towards Sunday in a residential area in Karlstad. The alarm about a powerful bang came in the Rud area just before 01.

When we arrived at the scene, a car that had exploded was found. I cannot say exactly how much damage there is to the car, but it was a significant bang, said Mathilda Borgström, duty officer at the police, during the night.

No one was injured in the explosion and currently, there is no suspect.

The area was cordoned off pending the arrival of the national bomb squad and the police had patrols with dogs on site. The cordon is now lifted.

It is obvious that it is a deliberate crime. The crime classification is general endangerment, says the police's press spokesperson Mats Öhman.

The police do not see that the incident can lead to any danger to the general public in the area.

Do you see any connection to organized crime?

Of course, it's those kinds of things that the intelligence service looks at. Now it's about gathering the material that exists and working further with it. It's not ruled out, but right now it's unclear, says Öhman.
