Brown seawater reminiscent of water in smaller lakes is currently meeting bathers in Bohuslän. But the water is safe to bathe in, writes Bohusläningen.
The reason for the brown seawater is the large amounts of rainfall that have brought organic material out to sea.
Uddevalla Municipality regularly takes water samples at the municipal bathing sites and has received questions from the public.
There are people who have called about the brown water. And we are quick to put out information if we were to see that it is unsuitable somewhere. That can change very quickly. If you bathe, you should smell and look and if you feel uncertain, you should refrain, says Gunilla Hurtig, unit manager for culture and leisure administration, to the newspaper.
The County Administrative Board also gives reassuring information and confirms that it is safe to bathe.
What makes it brown, when it is seen across the entire water surface, is humus substances, such as those that leach from the soil, says Fredrik Larsson at the County Administrative Board to Bohusläningen.
