The police report a lot of chaos and intoxication during the last night of the year, and many fireworks-related interventions.

In Gothenburg, a minor boy was hit by a firework, reports GP. According to the police, he suffered an eye injury and was taken to hospital. In Södertälje, a 14-year-old boy was also taken to hospital with injuries from a firework.

He was seriously injured when he was taken to hospital, says Susanna Rinaldo, press spokesperson for the police region West.

A report of reckless endangerment has been filed in both cases.

In Karlskrona, a 60-year-old man was seriously injured in the arm by a firework. He was taken to hospital by ambulance.

Police visited with rocket

He is also said to have suffered splinter injuries and due to the severity of the injuries, we have not been able to question him yet, says Lina Friberg, press spokesperson for the region South.

A report of a crime against the law on explosive goods has been filed.

In Ljungby, a police officer was also shot at with a rocket, but the police officer was not injured, and one person was removed from the scene, reports SVT News. A report of violence against an official has been filed.

In Piteå, six men in their 20s drove around in a car and fired fireworks at both people and buildings – now all are suspected of attempted assault. In Norrbotten, there have been several cases related to fireworks, while in the police region's other counties, Västerbotten, Jämtland, and Västernorrland, it has been relatively calm.

"About as expected"

The police otherwise assess that it has been "a normal New Year's Eve on the quieter side". The same assessment is made by the police in Jönköping County, Södermanland, and Östergötland, despite a steady influx of cases. In Jönköping County, about 30 cases related to fireworks and noise were handled, and nearly as many intoxication cases.

New Year's Eve has gone about as expected, we haven't had any really serious violent crimes, large fires, or serious injuries related to rocket launches, says Mats Pettersson, press spokesperson for the police region East.

In central Linköping, a person directed fireworks in an inappropriate manner, writes the police on their website. A police officer redirected the ignited firework, which then detonated, but the police officer was not seriously injured.
