A prematurely born baby in Region Västerbotten died from organ failure, likely caused by sepsis. The region has reported the case according to lex Maria.

The baby was born in week 25 of pregnancy. The condition was initially stable but quickly deteriorated, writes Region Västerbotten in a press release.

Complications arose with failure in multiple organs and an infection was behind it, says Bengt Andersson, chief physician at the region, to SVT Nyheter Västerbotten.

If the baby had received preventive or early treatment with antibiotics, the outcome might have been different, according to the region.
