After green light from several Western countries, Ukraine has taken its first attack, apparently using donated weapons against Russian territory. However, the information was later deleted without explanation.
"It's burning well", wrote Ukrainian politician Irina Versjtjuk to a photo on social media, which was said to show a Russian air defense system on fire.
"It's a Russian S-300. On Russian territory", continued Versjtjuk, adding that the attack was carried out after the latest clearance for the donated weapons.
The posts were later deleted without explanation. And higher authorities in Ukraine have been satisfied with the new situation that has come to use Western weapons offensively. Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Monday that they continue to talk to allies to get as much room as possible.
Earlier in the war, many Western countries banned the weapons they sent from being used in cross-border attacks, out of fear of spreading effects in the war. But in recent weeks, several nations have changed their stance.
However, the development has triggered new threatening statements from Russia. Diplomat Konstantin Gavrilov refers to earlier statements from President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov when he tells regime-friendly Izvestija that "some in the West have apparently lost their minds".
