It is our responsibility to nurture these qualities as children grow up and address the challenges they face, continued the princess.

Madeleine spoke about the threats to children having also moved to the digital world that many children inhabit.

Without listening and learning from children's experiences and strategies, we cannot plug the holes that expose them to harm, she said.

We now have a vision and plan to guide us forward. The governments have committed to stopping violence against children, and this must lead to real change.

Princess Madeleine, Vice Chair of the World Childhood Foundation, gave the opening speech at the UN meeting.

For Sweden's part, Nicola Clase, Sweden's UN Ambassador in New York, and Minister for Social Affairs Camilla Waltersson Grönvall (M) also spoke.

The first global ministerial conference to end violence against children was held on November 7-8, 2024.
