Sources tell the channel that World Athletics (WA) has decided to remove walking and marathon from the World Championship program, to instead replace them with a separate road World Championship.
I've heard through my sources that the World Athletics Council has already made up its mind," says Swedish walking star Perseus Karlström to SVT and continues:
It would be really sad. It's where our exposure is. I don't think a road World Championship would create particularly great interest in the media either.
According to SVT, the background to removing the road events from the World Championship is several, including that it would be easier for a World Championship organizer to have all competitions at a World Championship stadium, as they avoid arranging permits and closing roads.
World Athletics, however, denies that anything is settled.
