The parties in the Storting are in agreement on a new long-term plan for Norway's defense that stretches until 2036.
The government, led by Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Ap), presented the proposal in April and negotiations have been ongoing since then. The agreement includes investments of approximately 1,600 billion kronor by 2036.
The funds will, among other things, result in at least five new frigates with helicopters for submarine hunting and at least five submarines. The Army will be expanded from one to three brigades. The number of conscripts, reservists, and home guard soldiers will also increase.
The Storting is expected to make a decision on the investment on June 11.
