The elite player was sentenced in 2021 to a four-year ban from both competition and training due to a breach of the match-fixing regulations. The player was banned after being deemed to have intentionally received a yellow card in a football match in exchange for a loan of 300,000 kronor.

The ban expires on February 2 – but on Tuesday, news broke that the player had participated in a training session with a Swedish elite team.

The Swedish Football Association conducted an investigation into the incident on Wednesday to determine if the regulations had been breached. Following this, the association announced that its lawyers had decided to file a complaint against the elite player.

The player now risks being banned for an additional four years, the same length as the original ban.

The club may also face penalties for having a banned player in training – that investigation is still ongoing.
