The Health and Social Care Inspectorate (Ivo) has made the decision to ban or revoke the permits of 16 family homes for children and adolescents so far this year.
The authority has also banned or revoked the permits of three support housing facilities and three businesses that provide consultancy support.
"There are very serious deficiencies that have emerged during our supervision. Children and young people living in family homes have the right to safe and secure care, and it is clear that they are not receiving it, which is why we must take action. Unscrupulous and criminal actors do not belong in the welfare sector," writes Peder Carlsson, department head at Ivo, to TT.
During the supervision, Ivo has found serious deficiencies.
Many of the controlled companies have completely failed to check employees against suspicion and criminal records. Ivo has also banned businesses where staff were under the influence of drugs and where narcotics were stored.
Repeated financial mismanagement has also been a recurring issue.
