Forssell says that the government does not know who the 120 individuals are, whether they have committed crimes, and whether they are in the USA without permission or have failed to extend their residence permits.
We are looking into who these individuals might be, what the grounds are, and also whether they are security cases and what measures we need to take in Sweden, says Johan Forssell.
He states that the government will contact the Swedish embassy in Washington.
The figure of over 120 individuals from Sweden is on a list from the ICE authority, which works to protect the USA's borders from border crime and illegal immigrants, published by Fox News.
The individuals on the list have received their final notice to leave the country.
Forssell notes that the individuals are described by the US authorities from a security perspective.
If that is the case, we must ask ourselves what kind of individuals these are, whether they have committed crimes or not, and what that means for us in terms of how we should receive them in a suitable manner, he says.
The immigrants on the list come from all corners of the world, although the majority are from Latin America. From the Nordic countries, there are 22 individuals from Finland, 120 from Sweden, 39 from Norway, 45 from Denmark, and 5 from Iceland.
Since Donald Trump became president on January 20, ICE has increased its efforts to find individuals who are in the USA without permission. According to Fox, the authorities have detained more than 7,400 individuals in several states over nine days.
