Two works of modern dance share the programme at Kungliga Operan: Medhi Walerski’s Chamber and Alexander Ekman’s Cacti. The run continues through 14 November. Chamber is making its first appearance on a Swedish stage. Walerski’s work premiered in 2012 and is inspired by The Rite of Spring; its original music is Joby Talbot’s Chamber Symphony. In Cacti, dancers move between group and individual roles, using unexpected props in choreography that brings precision together with chaos. The programme is presented in two 30-minute sessions. The opera describes Ekman’s piece as playful and as offering a sometimes painful reflection on contemporary life. For visitors, the pairing gives a close look at two distinct approaches to contemporary dance.

Lost is a whimsical dream play that is reminiscent of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, with music by Andrea Tarrodi – one of our most acclaimed contemporary Swedish composers. Its 2024 première proved popular with critics and audiences of all ages. This is a truly great musical experience in a small format.
