Clown and Le jeu is a theatre workshop built around the idea that theatre begins with play. Participants use playful, challenging games and improvisations to explore acting pleasure and freedom on stage, including impulse, fixed point, theatre voice, major and minor, complicity, humour and lightness. The clown section turns that work towards what is funny about each participant: improvisations help uncover the humour in themselves and shape a lovable, open, naive red-nosed character who appears on stage unexpectedly, with the aim of making an audience laugh. The focus is on discovering a personal way of acting through play and developing a comic stage persona. The workshop descriptions frame games as theatre’s starting point and improvisation as a way to find freedom on stage.
