deklaration (inkomstdeklaration)

The yearly tax return in which your income and deductions for the previous year are settled. Skatteverket fills in most of it in advance from what employers, banks and others report, so for many people filing means checking the figures and approving them online with e-identification, or by text message or phone.

The return arrives in the spring, digitally if you have a digital mailbox or by post otherwise. Those who approve it early without changes can get any refund in April; the last day to file comes in early May.

You must add what Skatteverket cannot know, such as income from abroad, the sale of a home or a business. Exact dates for each year are on Skatteverket's dates page.
