"SVT has been criticized for legitimizing anti-Semitism through its collaboration with artist Stina Wollter in the upcoming TV series 'Naked with Stina Wollter'. Now we are choosing to postpone the publication indefinitely", writes Eva Beckman, program director at SVT, in a blog post.
The announcement comes after Stina Wollter was accused of spreading anti-Semitic conspiracy theories. In an Instagram post last autumn, she claimed that Israel "systematically took organs and skin from dead Palestinians". She also alleged that Israel "killed its own at the festival" during the terrorist attack on October 7, 2023.
The view "obscured"
Wollter has apologized for spreading false information. But in the blog, Eva Beckman now writes that the view is now "obscured" for the series' purpose, to discuss body ideals.
"It is not responsible towards anyone in the program, neither towards the program leader nor the participants, to broadcast in the current situation. But new circumstances have also emerged that have led us to reconsider our previous decision".
According to Beckman, it is about, among other things, another questionable post from Stina Wollter that was published at a later time.
"Not serving anyone's interests"
Beckman concludes by stating that today's decision will also evoke emotions.
"It will be welcomed by some and rejected by others. Maybe it will start a new discussion where SVT is accused of cancel culture or of serving Israel's interests. But we are not serving anyone's interests, we are working for the audience", she writes.
Eva Beckman declines to comment further on the matter via SVT's marketing department.
When TT asks Stina Wollter if she wants to comment, the response comes via SMS: "No thanks".
