The Cultural Committee in Region Skåne has decided to deny support to the study association Ibn Rushd for 2024.
The decision comes after an external review which, among other things, reveals that Ibn Rushd has on several occasions linked to sources found on websites containing texts stating that homosexuality is forbidden, that corporal punishment of children is permitted under certain circumstances, and where stoning is described as a valid punishment for marital infidelity.
"Sources with homophobic, misogynistic and anti-democratic content have been used without it being clear that the sources are being used with a critical approach. Therefore, we have now decided to deny further support," says Fredrik Sjögren (L), chairman of Region Skåne's Cultural Committee, in a press release.
Region Skåne states that during the review, they did not gain access to all the material they requested and that there are deficiencies in the control system.
Region Skåne will now also investigate whether it is possible to reclaim support that has already been paid out for the years 2021 and 2023, the years on which the review has focused.
Part of the 1.3 million kronor that were reserved for Ibn Rushd will now be used to check that there are no similar deficiencies in other study associations.
