The German director Wim Wenders receives the honorary award for his lifetime achievement at this year's European Film Awards. The ceremony itself takes place in Lucerne on December 7.
Wim Wenders' work is described as "outstanding" and as a "unique contribution to the film world" through both unique documentaries and feature films. Among the documentaries, his "Buena Vista Social Club" from 1999 about a group of Cuban musicians is mentioned, for which he received a European Film Award. For his documentary about the German choreographer and dancer Pina Bausch, he received another one.
Wim Wenders' latest feature film "Perfect Days" (2023) is about a quiet Japanese toilet cleaner and can still be seen in Swedish cinemas. The film was previously nominated this year for an Oscar in the category of best foreign film.
