In total, SMHI has now issued 15 yellow warnings on New Year's Day.

From 11 am, areas just west of Lake Vänern may experience heavy snowfall in certain areas. Later, at 2 pm, SMHI also warns of heavy snowfall with up to 15 centimeters of new snow in northern Götaland and southernmost Svealand.

Together with the snow that fell on New Year's Eve, the snowfall can amount to up to 20 centimeters.

Traffic disruptions

This snowfall can cause quite a bit of trouble. It can cause problems on the roads during the day, says Viktor Bergman, meteorologist at SMHI.

The snowfall can cause extensive traffic problems and SMHI warns of longer travel times, cancelled trains, slippery roads, and poor visibility.

In Skåne's coastal areas, strong winds of up to 20 meters per second are expected.

Train traffic stopped

Trafikverket therefore announces that it has decided to stop train traffic between Ystad and Simrishamn from 12 pm for safety reasons, reports SVT Skåne.

In southernmost Skåne, there is a yellow warning in effect from 8 am onwards. There may be storm gusts, says Viktor Bergman.

Overall, the weather is expected to improve significantly in Norrland.

From central Norrland and northwards, the weather is mostly clear, but significantly colder, with temperatures ranging from 10 to 20 degrees below zero in many areas, says Viktor Bergman.
