Weather Chaos Threatens World Cup Competitions

A powerful rainstorm makes it unclear at present how the biathletes' World Championship competitions will turn out in Slovenian Pokljuka. It's challenging, says competition director Borut Nunar to SVT.

Due to the weather conditions, the organizer has already scheduled the women's and men's distance competitions, which are also shortened, on the same day. The races are intended to be held on Thursday, but it is currently unclear how it will turn out.

It's challenging, and the main problem is that there's too much water. We're struggling to get the water off the ground, says Borut Nunar.

National team coach Johannes Lukas has test-driven the track and reports that the main problems are on the flat sections.

Then you can't ski, he says to SVT.

In other parts of the track, things look better.

You can hold a competition right now, the question is how good it will be. But in theory, you can hold a competition now, says Lukas.

Friday is now competition-free. On Saturday, the two mass start races are scheduled, and on Sunday, the plan is to hold the mixed relay and single mixed relay.

We need to start with an individual competition because we can't start with a mass start. We'll take it day by day, says Borut Nunar.
