Volkswagen (VW) is as a major customer in close contact with the crisis-stricken Swedish battery manufacturer Northvolt, according to a spokesperson for the German automotive group.
The spokesperson adds that VW from that perspective supports the industrial investment in increased production in existing facilities in Skellefteå.
However, the spokesperson does not want to comment publicly on how VW acts as owner or investor regarding Northvolt.
VW confirms that their board representative Sven Fuhrmann has left Northvolt's board.
"This decision has no impact on Volkswagen AG's ownership of shares in Northvolt AB", writes the spokesperson in an email to TT.
Northvolt has had significant financial problems for some time and is negotiating with both owners, lenders, and customers about a short-term rescue package and a long-term capital injection.
Northvolt's CEO Peter Carlsson has stated that approximately 10 billion kronor in long-term capital injection is needed over the coming year.
