39-year-old Caroline Seger, who is now ending her football career, was named MVP of the year in Damallsvenskan and also received the honorary award Sportbladet's prize.
One who praised the Rosengård midfielder was Marika Domanski Lyfors, the long-time national team manager who earlier this year received the news that she had been struck by a malignant brain tumor.
"I am so proud to have been a part of your journey. I have seen you in club teams, I have seen you in the national team. A fantastic football player, you have always done everything for the team", said Domanski Lyfors in a video greeting that moved Seger to tears.
Marta, Lotta Schelin, and Malin Moström also joined in the tribute with their own greetings.
It's incredibly nice and such nice words, but it's really tough in so many ways, says Seger to Aftonbladet.
The Scanian, with 240 international matches on her merit list, will be thanked for her blue and yellow achievements in connection with Sweden's European Championship qualifying match against Serbia in Stockholm on December 3.
Seger was originally supposed to be thanked already in June, but the tributes were postponed because she "didn't want to do it without Marika". Domanski Lyfors had recently received her cancer diagnosis.
