Monteverdi's "The Coronation of Poppea" will be this summer's opera at Vattnäs concert barn outside Mora. The opera, which was to be Monteverdi's last, takes place in Rome and deals with Poppea who had a love affair with Emperor Nero. The drama offers "cruel ruler techniques and drastic comedy" according to a press release from Vattnäs.
Anna Larsson is responsible for the new translation and direction, and also plays the role of Ottavia, Emperor Nero's wife. In the lead role as Poppea, the Norwegian opera singer Anne Wik can be seen, as well as Julia Lindgren from Gothenburg. Emperor Nero is played by Göran Eliasson.
The production will have its premiere on July 11 next year.
