"This has already been one of the deadliest weekends with attacks in northern Gaza. Attacks on civilians, including aid workers, and what remains of Gaza's civilian facilities and infrastructure must cease", she writes.
"The entire Palestinian population in northern Gaza, especially children, are at imminent risk of dying from diseases, starvation, and the ongoing bombings."
"A generation is being wiped out"
Jeremy Stoner, Save the Children's regional chief in the Middle East, also comments on the attacks in a written statement:
"The principle of protecting civilians in conflicts, especially children, is a cornerstone of international law and our common humanity. In Gaza, this seems to have been abandoned", he states.
"If the international community does not intervene soon, an entire generation of children in Gaza will be wiped out, along with their future."
Demands investigation
In Gaza, the World Health Organization is simultaneously trying to vaccinate children. On Saturday, several children were injured in an attack on a polio vaccination center. A Unicef employee, who was working on vaccinations at the center, was also shot at while driving her car but escaped unharmed.
"The attacks on Jabalia, the vaccination clinic, and the Unicef employee are further examples of the severe consequences of the indiscriminate attacks on civilians in the Gaza Strip", writes Unicef's Secretary-General.
Russel also urges Israel to immediately investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack on its employee, and to take measures to hold those responsible accountable.
