At least 22 people are feared to have drowned when the boat they were traveling in capsized in northwestern Nigeria, according to the country's disaster authorities on Wednesday.
About 50 farmers and traders were on their way to a local market when the boat sank in the state of Sokoto on Sunday. 25 people were rescued shortly afterwards, and three bodies were recovered.
22 people are still missing and the rescue operation has been completed as the chance of finding survivors is estimated to be non-existent.
Boat accidents are common in Nigeria, with waterways where congestion prevails and floods are common, especially during the rainy season.
