Ukrainian police and security service SBU are conducting hundreds of raids across the country. The purpose is to prevent men of military age from leaving Ukraine to avoid military service.

The past few months, Ukraine has tried to strengthen the military through a large mobilization, nearly three years after Russia's large-scale invasion. The campaign has raised concerns among Ukrainian men, and many have fled the country illegally.

Now, the police want to close dangerous smuggling routes, where fleeing Ukrainians have managed to make their way towards Europe.

"Over 600 simultaneous searches are being carried out by SBU agents and national police investigators," the police write in a statement.

"This is only the first part of a special operation to block the channels for human trafficking of men of military age abroad."

Hundreds of people have received help across the border, according to the statement, which states that the raids primarily target individuals who organize Ukrainian men's escape from military service.
