A source within President Joe Biden's government says that the appeal to Ukraine has been made in informal talks – but that the US believes Ukraine must receive rapid military reinforcement at the front in the Russian invasion war.
The current age for mobilization is 25 years, and has previously been lowered from 27 years of age.
The unnamed, but highly placed, source says that it's "a matter of pure mathematics" and that the precarious situation with Russian military advances requires Ukraine to gain access to more soldiers.
The White House has managed to push through American military support to Ukraine of around 56 billion dollars – equivalent to 610 billion kronor – since the Russian invasion war began in February 2022.
Around one million Ukrainians are currently fighting for the country, according to the American news agency AP. Ukraine's military estimates that it needs to arm an additional 160,000 soldiers for battle. The White House believes that even more recruitments are required.
