Ukraine was behind a car bomb attack in Sevastopol on the Crimean Peninsula where a high-ranking Russian military officer was killed on Wednesday morning, according to a source within the Ukrainian security service.
The incident has been confirmed by Moscow. It is one of several attacks on Russian military personnel and public figures in occupied Ukrainian areas and in Russia.
"As a result of the explosion, the Russian captain's legs were blown off and he died from blood loss", the Ukrainian source told AFP.
The informant describes the man as a "war criminal", responsible for cruise missiles fired from the Black Sea at civilian targets in Ukraine.
The incident is being investigated by Russia as a terrorist attack.
