Two wolves have been shot south of Söderköping in Östergötland, reports Swedish Radio's P4 Östergötland.
Protective hunting has been in effect in the area for some time after several attacks on sheep. The two wolves, a male and a female, were shot by a hunter to interrupt an ongoing attack on sheep, and did not occur with the support of the protective hunting itself.
There was an ongoing attack on sheep that was witnessed, and in connection with that, these two wolves were killed, says Kristoffer Hellberg at the Östergötland County Administrative Board to the radio.
He says it is "highly likely" that it concerns the wolves that the protective hunting involves, and DNA samples have been taken to confirm this.
