About 20 of the over 120 dogs that were seized from a kennel in Linköping in August have been put down due to acute animal welfare reasons, reports Sveriges Radio's P4 Östergötland.
According to Kristoffer Hellberg at the County Administrative Board in Östergötland, the suffering of the animals became too great. What will happen to the remaining dogs has not yet been decided.
The County Administrative Board in Östergötland decided to immediately seize the kennel's 123 dogs during an inspection a few weeks ago.
According to the County Administrative Board, the situation was "miserable" and, for animal welfare reasons, it was necessary to intervene immediately. Some dogs were completely apathetic, while others were so stressed that they bit and hung in the bars. The amount of urine and feces made it difficult to breathe, and cages with dogs were stacked on top of each other.
