The classic train journey through Vietnam takes 30 hours from Hanoi in the north to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) in the south. But that is about to change. In ten years, new high-speed trains will cover the 1,500 kilometers in five hours.
The National Assembly approved the construction project over the weekend with a budget of 1.7 billion dong, equivalent to 730 billion kronor, according to news agencies from Hanoi.
The timeline is ambitious, with planned construction start in about two years and completion by 2035.
