Notices of layoffs have trend-wise increased month by month during 2024. Even otherwise, the signals continue to indicate that the labor market has become tougher.
Unemployment is rising, the number of jobs to apply for is decreasing, and more people are registering with the country's employment agencies, according to the September statistics.
At the end of last month, approximately 360,000 people, or 6.8 percent of the workforce, were registered as unemployed or in various programs with the Employment Agency. This is 28,000 more than in September last year, when unemployment was at 6.3 percent.
For the unemployed, there are also fewer jobs to apply for. During the month, around 83,000 new positions were announced, approximately 30,000 fewer than a year ago.
A small glimmer of hope: There were slightly more who found a new job among those registered with the Employment Agency compared to the same month last year.
