Tiktok has been particularly pointed out among popular platforms for children and young people as contributing to poorer mental health and distorted beauty ideals. The changes with abolished beauty filters are expected to come into force in the coming weeks.
In recent times, several platforms, including Tiktok, have tried to strengthen their work on making their services safer for the youngest. Things like no longer being able to access certain functions as a minor, or limited use for those under 13 years old have increased. The changes should be seen in the light of increased external pressure, from among others the EU, USA, and the UK, to "clean up" and take responsibility for how the various algorithms affect young people's reality and health.
