When the men were arrested in Stockholm last year, the police did not only find forged documents in their homes, but also professional equipment for manufacturing or manipulating passports, ID cards and driver's licenses.
We are satisfied with the verdict, it has been extensive work, says border police investigator Maja Hagberg Andersson and adds:
The district court has assessed it as organized, systematic and threatening to society and that is what we have wanted to highlight in the investigation.
Most residence permit cards
In total, the police have found 153 false ID documents. Of these, 109 were residence permit cards from Sweden and other EU countries. There were also other ID documents from countries such as Ukraine, Spain and Georgia.
It is mainly done to make money. There are always people who want to get their hands on such documents, says Maja Hagberg Andersson.
In addition to the documents and equipment the police found during the search, they also came across video clips on the two men's mobile phones, where customers thanked them for their deliveries.
Two years in prison
Discovering a forged ID document is almost impossible for a person without the right knowledge, believes Maja Hagberg Andersson. A document technician can discover it by, for example, looking at how the text on the document was created.
Generally in Sweden, we need to get better at having real ID checks, says Maja Hagberg Andersson.
Both men are sentenced to two years in prison for serious forgery and are deported from Sweden. They are prohibited from returning to the country for life.
