The Crime Prevention Council's (Brå) CEO Jonas Trolle says to DN that parts of the so-called million programme, residential areas built in Sweden in the 1960s and 70s, should be demolished to get to the crime.

Yes, some things can go wrong when you do big things to change. But we need to take big steps, be long-term and try many things. I even think that we should tear down some million programs, says Trolle to the newspaper.

Trolle says further that society has withdrawn from the vulnerable areas, and that he believes it will take several decades to reverse the trend.

A sealed-off school, with windows nailed shut, is a disaster. It's a signal to everyone that it's gone to hell, says Trolle to DN.

Brå is a government agency that produces statistics and reports on the development of crime in Sweden.
