None of the two convicted teenagers are believed to have had any connection to either the murder victim or Gävle. However, according to the prosecutor, they had agreed to the murder, for which they would receive 150,000 kronor.
The victim, a man in his 30s, had gang connections and at the time of the murder was charged with suspected conspiracy to commit serious weapons offenses.
The 16-year-old boy had run away from his home in Västergötland and had been reported missing by his parents the day before the murder. Two days later, he was arrested at Gävle central station. Later, his DNA was found, among other things, on the trigger of the murder weapon. He is now sentenced to four years of closed youth care for the murder, which, according to the district court, would have resulted in life imprisonment for an adult.
His 17-year-old friend, who backed out before the shooting, has admitted his involvement and is sentenced to youth care for conspiracy to commit murder.
