The Chinese social media giant Tiktok is planning to discontinue Resso, the company's five-year-old music streaming venture – which has competed with both Spotify and Apple's music services.
Resso is to be shut down as of November 28 and all customer data will be deleted, according to Tiktok's streaming unit.
Tiktok's video service has paved the way for several major hits in music and been a platform for new artists who have broken through to a broad audience. But it has also led to several conflicts with the music industry, which has demanded more payment for the use of music.
Tiktok is part of the Chinese tech giant Bytedance.
