The White House is now responding to Donald Trump, who has accused Joe Biden and Kamala Harris of bearing the blame for the attempted murder on him on Sunday.
The President and Vice President have always strongly condemned violence in all forms, says the White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre.
We have definitely never, in any way, encouraged violence.
The White House states in a separate statement that Kamala Harris, who is also the Democratic presidential candidate in the fall, has called Trump.
She "wants to talk to him to express her gratitude for him getting away unharmed", writes the White House.
Trump made his accusations in an interview on Monday.
He (the suspect) believed the rhetoric from Biden and Harris and acted on it, Trump said to the conservative TV channel Fox News.
