The United Kingdom and Germany are entering into a new defence pact. The agreement aims, according to the countries' defence ministers, to strengthen European security due to the growing threat from Russia.
In a more dangerous world, allies are our strategic strength and we must do more together, says the UK's Defence Minister John Healey.
According to the agreement, German surveillance aircraft capable of searching for submarines are expected to regularly patrol the North Atlantic from a base in Scotland. The agreement includes, among other things, cooperation to protect underwater cables in the North Sea and to prioritize the development of long-range weapons that can travel farther than the UK's existing Storm Shadow missiles.
